Salute to Summer hosts 300 teens and youth sponsorsfrom various churches across the country for two days of challenging messages, activities, and fellowship. Pastor Kevin'89 and Sue Baldis Carpenter'87 brought 14teens to Salute to Summerfrom First Baptist Church of Colville, Washington. The trip took 48 hours. Salute to Summer 1993 is scheduled for July 8-10. Over 100 alumni indicated that they will sing in the Alumni Oratorio presentation of Messiah on December 13, 1992. Alumni who majored in music, performed in concert chorale or oratorio, or took music courses at Cedarville College will want to be a part of this historic event. The Friday, December 11 rehearsal,followed by an alumni reception, will kick off the event. Saturday's rehearsal will include a luncheon. They live in Akron where Paul is employed with Akron University in the Athletic Department. Mia Morrell'91 and Brian Guinther'92 became husband and wife on June 27,1992 at the Canton Baptist Temple in Canton,Ohio. Michael Crace'92 and Adrienne Steitz were united in holy matrimony on July 25,1992. John Stewart'92 and Tara Rhoades'92 exchanged vows on July 25,1992 at Fairlawn Grace Brethren Church in Fairlawn,Ohio. They will be living in Columbus,Ohio. Kimberly Trimble'92 and David Johnson were wed on July 18,1992 at First Baptist Church in Wellington,Ohio.Kim will teach first grade at Foothill Christian School in Glendora,California this fall. IlliFocus ON Arm FIELD John'64 and Judy Marcellus Bigelow'67 left their ministry in Juneau,Alaska for a one -year furlough beginning August 17, 1992.They have been in Juneau for five years working with Bethany Baptist Church.The Bigelows are eager to share with their many supporters and friends the exciting things the Lord has done in southeast Alaska.They will live in Canton, Michigan where Calvary Baptist Church has provided a mission home for them. Their sons, Ryan and Corey,will attend Plymouth Christian Academy this fall. Mark'67 and Beth Ziegler Trimble'67 returned to the States from Brazil for the wedding of their daughter,Kimberly'92,on July 18, 1992 in Wellington,Ohio.The church in Boas Novas,Brazil continues to grow and will have ten people in a baptism class this fall. The children's club and youth group have doubled since last year and many decisions are being made.They have asked for prayer for their family and for God's provision in their lives. Kenneth Van Loon'75 and his wife,Sandy, purchased a home in Paulding,Ohio where they minister as church planters in Emmanuel Baptist Church.The Lord provided their home after the house they were renting sold and they were forced to look for another place to live. Emmanuel had special meetings at the end of July and the Van Loons are praying that this will open new ministries and reach many for Christ. Chris Parsons'82 is the founder and executive director ofthe Good Samaritan Project,an interdenominational Christian ministry to persons affected by HIV/AIDS in the greater Atlanta area. Since 1988,the organization has provided practical,emotional,and spiritual support to hundreds of persons with HIV/AIDS and to their families and loved ones. Chris writes and lectures frequently.He teaches in the R.N.and L.P.N. programs ofDeKalb Technical Institute as an adjunct faculty member. Nur DEATHS 7,1174.11 John Vernon Hickman'31 died July 24,1992 at Ohio State University Hospital,Columbus,Ohio following a three-week illness. He was associated with the Quincy Lumber Company from 1943 to 1988.He is survived by his wife,Nina (Stevenson '34),and one son,John Hickman of Quincy,Ohio. Kathryn Finke Jurkat'40 died on July 1, 1992. She had open heart surgery in Texas several months earlier followed by a lengthy recuperation time.She was living in her Springfield,Ohio home at the time of her passing. We extend sympathy to her husband,Elmer"Elmo"C. Jurkat'26; sister, Janice Finke Morris'42;and other members of her family. Elizabeth(Betty)Irvine'45 passed away on July 24,1992 at Canterbury Villa in Centerburg,Ohio. Betty graduated from Cedarville High School in 1939 and from Cedarville College in 1945.She taught elementary school for 36 years in Jamestown,Fairborn,and Kettering,Ohio.We extend sympathy to her family and friends in the Cedarville area.
