Last October, did you receive a mailer asking how you were planning to celebrate National Pizza Month? Do you think we like pizza or what? It is a part of Americana. And it is a part of the Cedarville culture. How much pizza do you think you might have consumed while at Cedarville? Ordering in or going out for pizza was part of getting together and living the college life. Anyhow, we figured there was no better language for framing the Cedarville Annual Fund than pizza language. What is the challenge? The Annual Fund bridges the gap between what our students pay and what it truly costs Cedarville to provide their education. For this year, the gap stands at $1.5 million or $530 for each of our 2,943 students. Sticking with the pizza theme, we can say the average cost of a pizza is approximately $10. If that is the case, the gap equals the price of purchasing 155,000 pizzas! In past years, our alumni have covered about 20,000 pizzas’ worth of the gap. So how are we doing? As of March 5, 2002, the gracious giving of friends and alumni has paid for the equivalent of 62,506 pizzas. If 62,506 pizzas have been covered, that means we need to pay for 92,494 more by June 30, 2002. We’ve completed part of our goal, but we still have a distance to go before the need is met. How can I help? There are several options we have available: 1. Become involved in one of our giving clubs. Torch Club $100+ per year Charter Society $500+ per year President’s Associates $1,000+ per year Chairman’s Council $5,000+ per year 2. Give a gift online or mail one directly to us. 3. Take advantage of matching gifts. You can contact your human resources department or visit our Web site to see if your employer matches gifts. Last year, Cedarville received more than $100,000 in matching gifts. A FDGA is simply a contract that you make with the University. In exchange for your gift today, Cedarville will pay you fixed income in the future. You choose when the income begins, and it lasts throughout your lifetime. In addition, the payments are backed by all of the University’s assets. Therefore, the FDGA supplies income you can count on. This gift plan works especially well if you are between the ages of 25 and 55. Your fixed payout rate is affected by the income deferral period you choose (the period of time between your gift date and your income start date). As shown below, the longer you defer income, the higher your payout rate will be . . . The FDGA also provides income tax relief. Although your income from Cedarville begins later, you receive an immediate income tax deduction, typically 45 to 65 percent of the amount of your gift. Please contact Dave Bartlett or Kim Longo for more information. Office of Gift Planning 1-800-766-1115 www.cedarville.edu/dept/plg
