Inspire, Summer 1993

Among the 6,500 participants at the"Back to Genesis"seminars April 16-17 were Bill '80 and Elaine Heyworth Baldwin '81 and their children, Ben,Andy,and Valerie. Co-sponsored by the Institute for Creation Research(ICR)and CDR Radio Network,the seminars featured ICR speakers Ken Ham,Dr. Donald Chittick, and Dr. Duane Gish,who presented evidence supporting creation and rejecting evolution. Over4,000 K-12 students,their parents, and teachers attended assemblies for home and Christian school children. About 2,500 adults attended tthe seminars.The speakers also addressed the student body during chapel and in special evening meetings April 13-15. Phase II of CedarNet will connect Brock Hall, Maddox Hall, and Willetts Hall to the campus-wide fiber optic, PC-based computer network. In this phase,486SX workstations will be installed in 393 additional dorm rooms. Mr. David Rotman, director of computer services, is heading the CedarNet project. He states, "We wanted a vehicle for moving our high-quality instructional program into the next century and this is it. We believe the network adds significant value to each student's education far and above the value obtained from stand-alone computers." AlumniScholarship Awards Bible Joel DeVinney is a sophomore preseminary Bible major from Perry, New York.He has had a music ministry in chapel and at Ohmer Park Church in Dayton,Ohio.He also taught Sunday school at Patterson Park Church in Dayton.Joel is a member ofSymphonic Band,Brass Choir,and Tau Delta Kappa,the Honors Program organization.The son of Mr.and Mrs.Donald DeVinney, he is a 1992 graduate ofPerry Central High School. Business Administration Ryan Linnehan is ajunior management/marketing major from Ellsworth, Maine.He has been a class officer,a member of Student Government Association, Getting Started,KEA,and he chairs the Service Committee of his class. Ryan has been an AWANA leader with Vandalia Grace Brethren Church in Vandalia,Ohio for his three years at Cedarville. A 1990 graduate ofTemple Christian High School,he is the son of Mr.and Mrs.John Linnehan,Jr., ofEllsworth. Communica- tion Arts Leah Rosenvold,ajunior broadcasting major from Wadsworth,Ohio,has been a sound engineer for the Chapel audio systems,a staff announcer,operator, and appointment secretary for CDR Radio Network. She also has been involved with WSRN,the student radio network,as a disc jockey and news announcer,and next year will be production director. She served as secretary of Beta Chi,the broadcasters organization. The daughter ofDavid and Claudia Humes of Wadsworth, Leah is a 1991 graduate of First Baptist Christian School of Medina. Education Tammy Wittkamper is a junior elementary education major from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.She has been a member ofthe yearbook stafffor two years,serving as editor for the 1992-93 yearbook.Tammy is the daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Thomas Wittkamper of Milwaukee and a 1990 graduate of Heritage Christian High School. Her mother, Cathy Hubbard Wittkamper,is a 1968 graduate of Cedarville College. Engineering Brandon Kaercher,a junior engineering major, is the son of Mr.and Mrs. Richard Kaercher of Cedarville and a graduate of Xenia Christian High School.Brandon taught Sunday school at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Xenia,Ohio,has been the leader ofthe aero- design team for three years,and is a member ofthe varsity soccer team. Health and Physical Education Anne Kelly is a sophomore physical education majorfrom Webster,New York. During the school year she served as pianist at County Line Baptist Church in Dayton,Ohio. Anne is the daughter of Mr.and Mrs. William Kelly and graduated in 1991 from Webster Christian High School. Languages and Literature Susan Clark is ajunior English major from Verona,New Jersey. She has been involved with the Master's Puppets writing team and the AWANA team to the Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jamestown,Ohio.Susan is also a member ofthe 1993 MIS Teaching English as a Second Language team to Hungary and ofthe Women's Chorus.The daughter of Mr.and Mrs.James Clark of Verona,Susan is a 1990 graduate of Hackensack Christian High School. Music Jenifer Bork,ajunior music education major from Lapeer,Michigan has had a children's and a music ministry at Petre Road Baptist Church in Springfield,Ohio.She will be traveling with the Brass Choir to Argentina. She is in the Symphonic Band and is an officer ofthe MENC music educators organization. Jenifer is the daughter ofDr.and Mrs.Randy Bork ofLapeer and graduated from Lapeer East High School in 1990. Nursing Angela Hartman,ajunior nursing major,has served with the OVCH ministry and assisted in church nursery with a Swords extension team.She lettered three years in both volleyball and women's tennis and also is a resident assistant. The daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Bill Hartman of Ft. Wayne,Indiana, Angela is a 1990 graduate ofLeo High School. Psychology Alicia Elmore,a freshman psychology major from Cedarville, Ohio,is a member ofOpen Heirs,the 1993 MIS Mexico Team, Tau Delta Kappa Honors organization,and the Earth Conservation Group.She is a student assistant in the Department ofEducation. The daughter ofDr.and Mrs. Floyd Elmore, Alicia is a 1992 graduate of Cedarville High School. Her father,a 1977 Cedarville graduate,is an associate professor of Bible at the College. Science and Mathematics Georgia Hickman is ajunior premed/biology major from Lancaster,Ohio.The daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Robert Hickman,she is a 1990 graduate ofLancaster High School. Georgia serves with Mueller Residential Services and Cedar Kids.She is a science tutor and a member ofthe Chi Theta Pi health sciences organization. Social Science and History Anita Lyndaker,ajunior social work major,is a member ofthe Student Academic Advisory Board; Tau Delta Kappa,the honors organization; Concert Chorale;and Women's Choir. An officer ofEpsilon Alpha Pi,the social work organization, Anita has helped plan and has participated in a number of projects,including a Habitatfor Humanity experience in Louisiana over spring break. She also lived with a local family and helped care for their disabled daughter. Anita,the daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Art Lyndaker of Plain City,Ohio,is a 1988 graduate of Shekinah Christian High School. Hammock,Jr., a junior preseminary major. was chaplain of his freshman class and has led the Bristol House Nursing Home Ministry. He has taught Sunday school at the College, has spoken in Fellowship,and is an alternate for the Advisory Seven. He has served as president of Iota Chi,the cultural awareness organization. Darryl is an All-American track and field champion. A 1990 graduate of Whitehall-Yearling High School,Darryl is the son of Mrs. Kathryn Adkins of Whitehall,Ohio. Timothy Hoy,junior Bible major ofOlympia, Washington,served on the OVCH team and was sophomore class chaplain. The campus representative for Compassion International, he also has helped with the youth ministry at Colonial Baptist Church in New Carlisle, Ohio.Tim has been active in intramurals and Iota Chi,the cultural awareness organization.
