Commencement Honors O n June 2, 2001, 583 students became the first class to graduate from Cedarville since its transition from college to university. This was the institution's 105th commencement ceremony. The President's Trophy The 2001 recipients of the President's Trophy were Robert Lutz, a social science major from Anderson, Indiana, and Shawn Stephens, a management and communication arts major from Denville, New Jersey. The President's Trophy, the highest honor for a graduating senior, recognizes leadership, ministry, community and campus involvement, athletic performance, and academic achievement. Sarah Duda Shown Stephens and Robert Lutz with Dr. Dixon The Faculty Scholarship Award The following five students received the Faculty Scholarship Award for maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout their college careers: Sarah Duda, a nursing major from Sterling, New York; Samuel Logan Jr., a political science major from St. Joseph, Michigan; Jennifer Lutes, an electrical engineering major from Lombard, Illinois; Erin McDaniel, a biology major from Trumansburg, New York; and Edward Nehus, a chemistry major from Gallipolis, Ohio. Samuel Logan Jr. Jennifer Lutes Erin McDaniel Edward Nehus Dr. and Mrs. Dixon presented the Cedarville University Medalof Honor to Zoe Dell Nutter, who accepted the award on behalfofherselfand her late husband El. The Cedarville University Medal of Honor Also honored at commencement were Ervin J.(E.J.) and Zoe Dell Nutter, who received the Cedarville University Medal of Honor. E.J., who passed away in January 2000, and be Dell enriched the Miami Valley region through their leadership in the area's business, civic, education, and philanthropic enterprises. E.J. was one of Greene County's most prominent industrialists, having started a number of manufacturing businesses and donating his time and resources to numerous schools and organizations. His long-time reputation in business was:"Always put people ahead of the bottom line." Zoe Dell was vitally involved in the aviation industry, partnering with E.J. in numerous leadership and philanthropic ventures. Under her leadership, the National Aviation Hall of Fame became the premiere organization in America for honoring the heroes of flight. The Cedarville Board of Trustees was pleased to unanimously approve the Nutters as Medal of Honor recipients. Faculty and Staff Members of the Year Named E ach year the student body selects one faculty member and one staff member to be awarded for their quality service and dedication to students.This year's recipients were Dr. Richard Blumenstock'63 and David Denlinger. Rich,an associate professor of Bible, was named Faculty Member of the Year.A faculty member since 1990,Rich teaches popular Bible classes such as introduction to Bible study and personal evangelism. His wife Helen,sons Richard Jr. and Jim '96, daughter-in-law Karen(Ware)'96,and their families were present to see him receive the award. David,a mechanical engineering technician, was named Staff Member of the Year. David has been at Cedarville since 1993 and is known for the way he patiently assists students with their engineering projects.
