From The Director's Chair A t the beginning ofthe school year,Dr.Warren Wiersbe challenged the Cedarville College family to pray. And we have prayed through many circumstances already. Karen Hamilton Cale'69 lost her husband in the fatal air accident near Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania in early September; Homecoming events were a great success with a record number ofover 1,500 alumni and family members in attendance;and Ben and I are praising God for a healthy baby boy—Nicholas Kinsman Smith— born November 1, 1994. Call the Development Office 513-766-7810 for more information. 2WINTER'95 Your Newalumni CouncilMembers Rodney Lane'64 Rod and his wife,Barbara,live in Blanchester, Ohio,where Rod serves as superintendent of schools for the Clinton County Board of Education.Rod graduated with a degree in history from Cedarville College,a master ofeducation degree from Kent State University in 1969,and has completed several post-graduate courses at Miami University and Xavier University. He has made his services and expertise available to Cedarville College as a chapel speaker and participant at many alumni events. Rod and Barb's daughter,Elizabeth,is a 1993 graduate of Cedarville College and their son,Todd,is ajunior majoring in biology. Active in his community, Rod is a member ofthe Rotary Club and serves on the board of directors for the First National Bank of Blanchester,Community Improvement Corporation,and Even Start. As a deacon ofthe First Baptist Church in Blanchester,Rod also enjoys teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. Rod was named Blanchester's Citizen ofthe Year in 1989. Sandra Holwerda Schlappi'75 Sandy and herfamily live in Cedarville.Sandy earned her B.A.in physical education from Cedarville College in 1975 and an elementary education degree in 1988.She also earned a master's degree in physical education from University ofDayton in 1982. Currently,Sandy teaches seventh grade science, math,and health at Roosevelt Middle School in Springfield,Ohio.She stays involved with the Cedarville community as president ofthe soccer club, participating in Cedarville College's Alumni Basketball Weekend, and directing the annual musical performed in chapel by the Southgate Children's Choir. Sandy also has served as a fundraising volunteer for the Children's Hospital of Dayton for the past eight years.Sandy and her husband,Dan'77N,with their children—Gabriel,Nicholas,and Adam— enjoy attending Southgate Baptist Church in Springfield.Sandy coached women's basketball at Cedarville College from 1978-1982. Partners 1,562 Jump on Bandwagon Already during PARTNERS 94-95,many have jumped on the bandwagon,but there is definitely no fear ofits collapsing.In fact,there is room for any who wish tojoin the hundreds already on. 1,562 alumni have committed $49,566 toward the College's Annual Fund need—the gap between what students pay and whattheir education truly costs. If you are among the 1,562,we thank you. Many have already sent in their gifts. This is only the start. Hundreds have yet to be called. Before June 30, 1995,we hope more will jump on the bandwagon,and help meet the $1,193,500 Annual Fund need.
