In June 2025 our library (along with all academic libraries in Ohio) will be migrating to Ex Libris’ Alma and Primo VE, replacing our current backend systems, OneSearch, and the CU Books and OhioLINK catalogs. Among other changes, this will provide a new search platform that broadens access to relevant resources and research, enhances library user experiences, and improves search functionality. Our library staff has been working diligently to prepare for this major transition. We are striving to minimize disruptions for library users in the weeks leading up to the launch date in June 2025. For more information on this transition and temporary disruptions associated with it, visit our Alma/Primo Migration Hub page. 2024-25 Library Student Staff Awards Please check the online calendar for holidays and other special hours. Library Careers Program: Intern Notes As American Christians, we have the blessing of being able to easily access Christian and theological resources Unfortunately, this is not true for many communities around the world, but a missions organization called Open Door Libraries is trying to change that. ODL’s vision is to provide inviting spaces that support local churches and Biblical Heritage Gallery The current Biblical Heritage Gallery exhibit focuses on the most familiar verse in the English Bible, John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosever believeth in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Entitled “Love in any Language”, this exhibit highlights John 3:16 in Bibles of different languages in the “world” that God “so loves.” Out of over 7,000 languages in the world, the complete Bible is currently translated into about 750 languages, with the New Testament translated into an additional 1,700 languages, and smaller portions of the Bible into over 1,200 other languages. Bibles included in the exhibit are from Albania, Bulgaria, Philippines (Cebuano), China, France, Germany, Ivory Coast (Guere), Japan, Lebanon, Navajo, Russia, and Spain. Visit the Biblical Heritage Gallery in the upper level of the library to get a small taste of God’s love in any language. by Justin Kemp allow seekers to learn about Christianity. In the summer of 2024, I had the privilege of interning with two Open Door Libraries locations in Central Europe. I spent the first three weeks of my summer at Connections in Berlin, Germany. The three-room library functions like a community center, providing reservable rooms for Bible studies and church gatherings and a coffee bar to invite the local community in. While I worked on some “librarian” tasks like labeling new books, I spent most of my time in Berlin having conversations with local Christians and Berliners seeking answers to their spiritual questions. For the last four weeks, I interned at Crossroads, a small public library serving Prague, Czechia. In Prague, I explored the challenges of international librarianship—imagine large portions of your library collection being in languages you don’t speak! As much as I loved working with the books, my favorite memory from Prague was serving with an English camp hosted by the library, through which we were able to share the Gospel with several children. ODL was a special experience because it allowed me to develop library skills with a focus on community engagement and sharing my faith.

As a statewide consortium of academic libraries, OhioLINK facilitates interlibrary resources sharing, secures group discounts on digital resources, and represents academic libraries at a state level. These activities have direct, tangible benefits for Cedarville faculty and students. Through OhioLINK, Cedarville has access to world-class information resources at steeply discounted costs. A recent analysis determined that the list price of the digital journals and books available through OhioLINK packages that are used by Cedarville faculty and students is 60 times the cost actually paid by Cedarville to OhioLINK. Resource sharing of print materials is what most people think of when talking about OhioLINK. Last year, Cedarville faculty and students borrowed nearly 3,000 books from other libraries across the state thanks to OhioLINK’s resource sharing agreements. OhioLINK has played a major role in positioning the state among the very best in the nation for library services and we have benefited tremendously from our membership in the organization. National Library Week was April 6th through 12th! This annual event highlights the important work that libraries do in their communities and this year’s theme was “Drawn to the Library.” To celebrate, the library provided activities for students to show their appreciation and love for libraries. Students could guess the title of a book only by individual lines within a jar, and share their favorite book quote or picture book. In keeping with the theme, perhaps the most popular activity was coloring their very own bookmarks, which were designed by Circulation student worker Layne Osborne! Thank you to all the students who participated and showed their appreciation for libraries! Value of OhioLINK Spring Book Sale Recap Thank you to those who participated in our library book sale!
