Forensics Wins Fifth Straight Yiie Cedarville College forensics team took the state title for the fifth consecutive year as it hosted the 1994 Ohio Forensics Association Varsity Tournament February 18-19. Over 120 students from 12 Ohio colleges and universities competed in the event. Cedarville's Greg Dimler, Mandy Secord, and Jeremy closest competitor was the Miami Grinnell_ each placed first in their speaking University team, which is coached categories at the state tournament. by a Cedarville graduate. In third and fourth place were The Ohio State University and Ohio University. Contributing to Cedarville 's win were points earned by Cedarville's first year forensics competitors in the novice tournament, held two weeks earlier at Ohio State. Dr. David Robey, associate professor of communication arts, is coach and director of the forensics program. Gary Barker, assistant professor of communication arts and a 1986 Cedarville graduate, is assistant coach. Hall Of Fame Inducts Coach, Grad C edarville soccer coach John McGillivray was recently inducted into the National Association of Independent Colleges (NAIA) Hall of Fame, and outstanding track athlete Jane Romig Brooker will be inducted in May. Both are members of the College Athletic Hall of Fame. Head soccer coach for 20 years, McGillivray has been involved for many years with leadership in the NAIA district, area, and national associations. He received the first– ever Distinguished Merit Award by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Official Association in 1990 and the 1991-92 National Merit Award given by the National Soccer Officials Association. The awards cite his character, attitude, and behavior. Brooker, a 1986 graduate, is regarded as the best female distance runner in the history of Cedarville College and was named Outstanding Female Performer at the NAIA National Indoor Championships in 1986. Since college, Brooker has been a semifinalist in the U.S. Olympic trials twice. She currently competes in many meets representing Athletes in Action. Bible Profs Earn Doctorates T wo professors in the Department of Biblical Education recently completed doctoral degrees. Richard Blumenstock, assistant professor of Bible and a 1963 Cedarville graduate, earned the D.Min. degree at Western Conservative Baptist Seminary in Portland, Oregon. Chris Miller, assistant professor of Bible, received his Ph.D. degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. Trustees Announce Promotions Tiie board of trustees has approved promotions for the following Cedarville faculty members: Dr. Charles Clevenger to professor of music, Dr. Joseph Halsey to professor of political science, Dr. Robert Parr to professor of sociology, and Dr. Gary Percesepe to professor of philosophy. Also receiving promotions were Dr. Kevin Sims to associate professor of political science and Jan Bosma to associate professor of library science. Ors. Percesepe and Sims are Cedarville College graduates. Receiving tenure were Anna Ruth Hille, assistant professor of education, and James Snowden, assistant professor of English. His son, Dr. David Jeremiah of California, officiated at the ceremony at Grace Baptist Church in Cedarville.
