Graduate Certificate
in Bioethics
Purpose Statement
The
Bioethics Graduate Certificate
provides supplemental
training in bioethics to college graduates just starting out or
already engaged in professional work or postgraduate training.
Health care professionals (e.g., physicians, nurses, physician
assistants, pharmacists) are confronted daily with challenges to
ethical and compassionate practice. Pastors, hospital chaplains,
and social workers often serve on the ethics committees of
community hospitals, and are frequently approached for advice on
medical and bioethical questions. In all of these cases, additional
training in bioethics will provide the tools for effective ethical
reasoning and analysis of real-life problems.
Program Objectives
• Evaluate and clarify bioethical issues as Christians in a
secular world.
• Make informed and balanced ethical decisions.
• Apply bioethical insights within a professional settings.
Course Requirements
The Bioethics Graduate Certificate requirements involve 10

Accreditation
There are no official national standards for bioethics programs
and no credentials bodies. The American Society for Bioethics

hospitals and individuals that engage in ethics consultations. The
courses in the bioethics program match these core competencies.
Accreditation will be pursued when standards have been
established.
