Inspire, Winter 1993

From The Director's Chair T he culture ofThe 'Ville! There is nothing like it on Homecoming Weekend! On October 16,over 1,500 alumni, family, and friends returned to experience Cedarville College 1993. And in many ways the culture has changed a great deal. We witnessed the change ofleadership at Cedarville College when Dr.James T.Jeremiah became chancellor and Dr.Dixon stepped in to lead the college as president. Notesfrom the Post Office are being replaced with electronic mail. Today's student relies on CedarNet,the computer network, for intracampus communications. Student organizations are diving into new community services and assisting other students to get involved with meeting the needs ofthe Miami Valley. Open Heirs,a student organization that takes the gospel to the people on the streets of Cincinnati, shares the Good News one-on-one with teens and adults. Certainly the look ofthe campus has changed. With the addition ofthe Engineering/Nursing/Science building, the new wing on Willetts dormitory, and the improvements made all around campus,a map is a necessity! Even the song we sing as our Alma Mater changed in 1987.The clothing styles have changed, and the culture is uniquely Cedarville. In a world of varied and changing cultures, we need to incorporate diversity into our small worlds. This brings a broader understanding ofreaching the world for Christ,as well as an increased knowledge ofour own prejudices. And we do this with the surety that the Bible does not and will not change. God's Word stands true. At Cedarville College we emphasize involvement. We emphasize discipleship and finding strength in accountability. But today's mission remains the same. Our college will continue to offer students an education consistent with biblical truth. Chapel will also remain constant as the central experience for the college family. This issue ofInspire focuses on cultural diversity and how Cedarville College is meeting this challenge to the glory ofGod.Thanks to many ofour alumni who contributed Christmas ornaments for our Cultural Christmas Tree project that reminds us ofthe many cultures in which our alumni serve. We also appreciate the many who share the vision of Cedarville College through its changing culture over the years. Please continue to pray and give as we prepare young men and women to serve Him.
