DELIVERING THE RESULTS
THE MODERNIZATION AND EXPANSION OF CLASSROOM AND LAB
SPACE KEEP CEDARVILLE’S FACILITIES AT A LEVEL COMPARABLE
TO OUR COMPETITORS AND ENABLE THESE DEPARTMENTS TO
CONTINUE SERVING STUDENTS’ INTEREST IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY,
ENGINEERING, AND MATHEMATICS PROGRAMS WITH EXCELLENCE.
Specific Outcomes
Human Biology
Our advanced undergraduate students will have the unusual opportunity to
work with cadavers; few students have this experience before graduate or
medical school.
Organic Chemistry
Each student will work with his or her own ventilation hood, reducing
chemical-exposure hazards and improving air quality in the lab and
throughout the building.
Instrumental Chemistry
The new lab will provide space for additional instruments that serve the
organic, analytical, and physical chemistry classes.
Cell and Molecular Biology, Immunology
This renovation will provide dedicated labs serving cell biology, molecular
biology, immunology, biochemistry and genetics (these currently share lab
spaces).
Research
Undergraduate research experiences have become essential for students
planning to attend medical or graduate schools, and expectations of
scholarly faculty research are increasing. Additional equipment and
technology will facilitate student and faculty research.
Mathematics
The dedicated math classroom will enable mathematics faculty to use more
innovative teaching styles than a typical classroom provides.
Physical Science
Additional space will meet the needs of our astronomy, meteorology,
oceanography, and advanced physics classes.
“Cedarville helped prepare me for
my job at Cummins by providing
me with a great engineering
education. The Cedarville
graduates I know at Cummins
are some of our best employees.”
– Chris Byus ‘08
Chris Byus ‘08 received Cedarville’s
Distinguished Service Award in 2013
for helping engineering students find
employment with Cummins, a diesel engine
manufacturer headquartered in Columbus,
Indiana. In 2012-13, Cummins hired 21
students and graduates for internships and
full-time positions.
